Terry Yorath House provides residential and respite care and support for people aged between 18 – 65 who have physical and/or learning disabilities. We aim to ensure that people are encouraged and enabled to make their own choices and decisions in as many aspects of their lives as possible.

Each person is unique and their care needs different, therefore each person has an individually tailored package of support to meet their needs and wishes. People are encouraged to enjoy their hobbies and choose their own holidays, outings and to participate in different events. Strong community links

Main tasks

Take the time to talk to people who use the service and spend quality time with them

Organise a variety of outings, activities and gathering for an individual or group

Encourage participation and promote the outings and activities to the people using the service

Participate in activities and outings

What skills/qualities are needed?

Good organisational and planning skills

Good interpersonal skills and enjoy talking to people of all ages and with a variety of interests and backgrounds

Ability to encourage and motivate

When is an activities volunteer needed?

Any time of the day, evening or weekend. Whatever will suit you and the service.

What do we offer our volunteers?

Any necessary training required

A designated member of staff to share any concerns or issues with

Free DBS check

Reimbursement of travel / meal expenses incurred whilst volunteering

What we won’t ask you to do

Take the lead on a shift

Attempt any task or activity you don’t feel comfortable or able to do

Work alone in the service
