Befriender - The Minims, Hatfield

The Minims is home to 12 people within two bungalows in Hatfield with a staff team on hand to provide 24-hour care and support. We aim to ensure that people are encouraged and enabled to make their own choices and decisions in as many aspects of their lives as possible.

What does a befriender do?

Take the time to talk to people who use the service and spend quality time with them

Help people to speak up about the way in which they want to live

Encourage participation in outings, activities and gathering and accompany people to these

What skills/qualities are needed?

A good listener

A genuine interest in people

Good interpersonal skills

Ability to encourage and motivate

When is a befriender needed?

Any time of the day, evening or weekend. Whatever will suit you and the service.

What do we offer our volunteers?

Any necessary training required

A designated member of staff to share any concerns or issues with

Free DBS check

Reimbursement of travel / meal expenses incurred whilst volunteering

What we won’t ask you to do

Take the lead on a shift

Attempt any task or activity you don’t feel comfortable or able to do

Work alone in the service
