The Resource, Enfield

Specialist Day and Outreach Services
The Resource provides specialist day and outreach services for people with learning disabilities who present challenges to services.

The service is totally person-centred and offers individually tailored plans of support for people to have the learning and leisure opportunities they want and which meet their needs.  The approach of the service is to encourage a move towards a greater degree of independence.

The service offers outreach - both in the community and in peoples own homes: group sessions, transitioanl support for school leavers and one-to one (or higher) support can be provided where necessary.

The service is based in Durants Road in Enfield and on the outside has the appearance of an ordinary house, albeit a large one. On the inside it provides flexible and imaginatively designed space.  There is a snoozelen room and the building is fully accessible to people using wheelchairs.

Activities
A wide variety of activities are accessed, facilitated and supported by the Charity's Leisure, Education and Occupational Services (LEOS) staff. Following referral to the service, a complete programme is devised to ensure that individual needs are met to high standards. Quarterly sessional reviews and six-monthly individual reviews ensure that provision is regularly monitored and assessed for its suitability.  Group sessional activities include access to IT/computer skill, arts and crafts, music and dance and independent living skills.

One-to-one support can be offered and the package of support will be determined via the referrals process and in consultation with the individual, family, carer and the referring agency.  Any activity of a leisure, educational or occupational nature can be catered fo, for example cinema and theatre, horse riding, sprots events, day trips, and places to visit of interest and local authority leisure services including leisure centres and community projects.

College or respite breaks
Within the service we are able to offer respite to families during the college breaks by providing stimulating and rewarding leisure activities for the client when they are not attending their regular college.  Weekend sessions will also be offered.  These will consist of two hour sessions and involve a small group visiting a venue of their choice and interest.

Eligibility criteria
This service is for people, aged 18 or over, with a learning disability and is particularly aimed at people who need significant levels of support in order to access their community or participate in leisure or educational activities.  It is particulary suited to people who challenge service including those with autistic spectrum disorders.  Individuals need to be resident in, or close to, the London Borough of Enfield.
