Reflection
From the Gospel of St Luke Chapter 10 v 25-37.
A man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and was attacked by robbers who stripped him, beat him and went off leaving him half dead. A priest and levite passed bye on the other side of the road. But a Samaritan traveller who was making the same journey came upon him, and when he saw him was moved with pity. He went up and bandaged his wounds, bathing them with oil and wine. Then he lifted him on his own beast, brought him to an inn and looked after him there. Next day he continued his journey and gave money to the innkeeper “look after him; and if you spend any more, I will repay you on my way back”
Jesus said “Who was the neighbour?” The one who took care of him, came the reply. Jesus said “Go and do as he did”
Prayer:
We pray that we may have the insight to see when people are being neglected, left out, or ignored, and we pray for the courage to include them in our lives and to work for their inclusion in the community where we live. And we make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Today, we invoke God’s blessing on the work of Saint John of God that continues today in 54 countries and in each Continent. We remember and pray for those who feel left out and at the side of the road of life! We pray for those who are lonely, lost and feel down and out.
May God grant that we may:
- be thoughtful in speaking;
- be gentle in our ways;
- be cherishing of life;
- be fruitful in our actions;
- be companionable in our journeying;
- be merciful in our judgements;
- be simple in our lifestyle.
God watch over and protect us all.
Saint John of God, a modern Good Samaritan pray for us today and always.
